We are currently recruiting for a kind, patient and experienced Personal Assistant to support Thomas, a lovely 7-year-old boy with autism, global developmental delay and learning difficulties.
Thomas is non-verbal and communicates in his own unique way, so we are looking for someone who is observant, understanding and willing to take the time to learn how he communicates and recognise his individual cues. Thomas requires close supervision and support to keep him safe, as he has limited awareness of danger and can become frustrated when he is unable to communicate his needs.
Thomas is PEG-fed and will require support with his feeding and personal care. Appropriate PEG feeding training will be provided, so you do not need to already hold this training, but you must be willing and able to complete it.
Thomas loves being outdoors and exploring nature, particularly woodlands, trees, birds and water. He also enjoys swimming, listening to music, and has a particular love of shoes and wellies! He enjoys quieter environments and benefits from a calm, consistent approach and a predictable routine.
Experience working with children with autism and complex additional needs would be highly beneficial and is preferred for this role. We are looking for someone who is confident, reliable and patient, with the ability to remain calm and supportive when Thomas becomes overwhelmed.
Due to Thomas’s physical strength and the level of support he requires, we would ideally be looking for someone who is physically confident and able to support him safely. A male PA may be particularly beneficial, although this is not essential and all suitable applicants will be considered.
