About the Role

I am currently seeking a personal assistant to support me in accessing the community and keeping me safe whilst out. I have Epilepsy with various levels of seizures, so you must be experienced in working with individuals with Epilepsy and be able to demonstrate your knowledge of seizure identification. I currently reside with my parents, brother, and nephew, and I have two old English bulldogs. You must be an animal lover and not frightened of reptiles, including snakes and spiders, as I keep these as pets too. I do have episodes of depression on occasion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Personal Care Support: There are no personal care duties in this role, but I may require prompts or assistance after seizures.
  • Daily Living Support: Assistance with social activities and accessing the community. I manage my own medication, but you must be able to identify my medications and what they are prescribed for. Places I enjoy include trips to Newcastle to go shopping or to visit my favourite restaurants, bowling, the beach in the warmer months (but I do not like the sand), arcades, Spanish City, cinema, and crazy golf.
  • Mobility & Transport: Support to access and navigate public transport. A full, clean UK driving licence is essential if you are a driver.

Who You Are

  • Physically fit – you must be fit enough to support my body weight and keep me safe.
  • Able to follow instructions carefully and work with sensitivity.
  • Respectful of boundaries and personal space.
  • You must have experience working with adults with Epilepsy and understand Mental Health and how it can present.
  • Bubbly, happy, talkative, and outgoing.
  • Naturally upbeat, positive, and compassionate.
  • Good at taking the initiative but also comfortable being guided by myself or my parents.
  • Responsible with strong attention to detail and vigilant always.

About Me (Kaitlin)

I am a very sociable young woman who enjoys my independence. My mum has been a great support, but I am ready to go solo and make my own adventures with the right person supporting me. I love shopping and going out for food, especially a good carbonara at the Italian restaurant. I am naturally a chatterbox and love a good chat about a wide range of topics. I enjoy laughing and having a good belly laugh, whether it's about life in general or watching a good comedy together. My epilepsy can be quite severe at times, and I can have absent seizures where even I am unaware that they are happening, but there are tell-tale signs that you must look out for. I communicate verbally well; however, I do sometimes have difficulty pronouncing words, so you must be patient and strive to understand certain words I find difficult. I understand everything you say.

My PA must have a good sense of humour and be able to see the funny side of life. I am looking for a long-term PA with whom I can build a good rapport and enjoy being around. I must tell you I am a little bit of a Diva, but all the best people are! I would love to hear back from you to see if we could be a double trouble duet and “Diva” together as we navigate through our adventures. If this sounds like a role you’d enjoy and you think we’d be a good fit, please apply.

There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be male/female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010 schedule 9 paragraphs 1 – 4.
