Overview
BOSS. is a one‑year training programme for learning disabled people who are passionate about the arts. The programme is based in Sandwell, Birmingham or Dudley and aims to give trainees practical experience of managing an arts organisation.
Responsibilities
- Get welcome and support at the start of the programme.
- Choose an area of work to focus on, such as planning projects, helping others develop ideas, fundraising, audience development, recruitment, team support, accessibility, or event management.
- Learn from experienced Spectra team members by observing and discussing their work.
- Progress to performing tasks together with experienced staff.
- Develop skills to carry out tasks independently.
- Participate in regular reflection sessions to discuss learning, support needs and future goals.
Qualifications
- Living in Sandwell, Birmingham or Dudley.
- Being a learning disabled person.
- Excitement to learn and to use art as a catalyst for change.
- Commitment to a year of dedicated training.
Working Conditions
Work 1 to 1½ days per week, usually on Tuesdays in the office, with opportunities to visit workshops or community locations. Transport support will be provided and flexibility around personal commitments will be offered.
Pay and Benefits
£195 per day. The programme consists of 49 days across the year, giving a total of £9,555. Payment schedule can be adjusted for applicants receiving income‑related benefits. An Access Support Worker will be appointed to help with practical needs during the programme.
