The predicted salary is between 1000 - 2000 £ per month.

Location: Middlesbrough Town Hall

Rate of pay: £37.50 weekly fee (£25 per hour delivery)

Musinc’s rates of pay include time for session planning and weekly set up / pack down of equipment, in addition to delivery within the hours stated above. This position is self-employed, and contracts will be awarded termly. Our funding is confirmed until March 2027 and we expect this project to run until then, with the option to further extend. This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

About the role

We have two assistant positions available to support delivery of two groups offering inclusive and high-quality weekly music making activities for d/Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent young adults or adults. One of these is a weekly orchestra for participants aged 16-25, and most are experienced young musicians. The other group is a weekly music group for d/Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent adults. The sessions involve singing, percussion, and pitched instruments dependent on the interests and experience of the participants.

Qualifications and skills

This is an assistant role; therefore, we do not expect applicants to meet all of the criteria. We are looking for musicians who are passionate about providing musical opportunities for all people and are keen to develop their skills in leading inclusive musical activities.

  • Appropriate level of skills and knowledge in any musical instrument
  • A sound understanding of the principles of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and how this applies to your own practice, or a willingness to develop skills and knowledge in this area
  • Ability to reflect, learn and adapt as a practitioner
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good time keeping
  • Open mindedness in relation to musical genres
  • Desirable (optional):
  • Experience delivering music making sessions for young people or adults
  • Experience working with d/Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent participants
  • Knowledge of community music practice
  • Knowledge and experience of a wide range of teaching and pedagogical approaches, and an ability to adapt to young people’s different learning styles
