About the role

This is a rewarding role supporting younger disabled people to live more independently and take part in the activities that matter to them. You will offer practical, respectful and person-centred support in daily life, helping each person develop skills, make choices and access their local community.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting with cooking, meal planning and preparing simple, healthy meals.
  • Helping with shopping, budgeting and organising everyday essentials.
  • Assisting with household management, domestic chores, cleaning, laundry and keeping living spaces safe and comfortable.
  • Encouraging independence by supporting people to learn and practise daily living skills at their own pace.
  • Supporting access to social, leisure and community activities, such as clubs, appointments, cafés, local groups or days out.

Please note: this role does not involve personal care.

About you

  • You do not need to have formal care experience to be a great fit. What matters most is that you are patient, dependable, positive and able to support people in a way that promotes independence rather than taking over.
  • A warm, respectful and encouraging approach.
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Reliability, honesty and good timekeeping.
  • Confidence supporting people in the home and community.
  • A practical, organised approach to everyday tasks.
  • Willingness to follow guidance and work in a person-centred way.
  • An understanding of the importance of independence, choice and dignity.

Hours and flexibility

Flexible working hours are available and can be discussed to suit both the needs of the people being supported and the availability of the successful applicant. This may include daytime, evening or weekend support depending on agreed arrangements.

Why this role matters

As a Personal Assistant, you will play an important part in helping young disabled people feel more confident, connected and in control of their everyday lives. Your support can make a real difference by opening up opportunities, reducing barriers and enabling people to do more of the things they enjoy.
