Are you a bold communications leader with a passion for B2B storytelling and a builder's mentality? Do you thrive at the intersection of PR, media, influencer strategy, and organic social and love to build and operate? Then you may be the Head of PR & Communications of our dreams. Directive is a leading marketing agency for B2B and SaaS companies. We've built a reputation as the go-to agency for enterprise brands that want to solve complex B2B advertising challenges. This is a rare opportunity to be the key leader of a growing practice area, defining how Directive’s clients are discoverable across PR, influencer, and organic social.

We've experienced significant growth and have stayed true to our culture: the best idea wins. We're future-focused and are looking for the right communications leader — someone who's equal parts strategist, builder, and storyteller — to join us at this pivotal moment.

The Role

The Head of PR & Communications is a senior player‑coach who brings deep subject matter expertise across PR, Influencer, and Organic Social and knows how to operationalize that expertise into a high‑performing team and great client results. You'll work directly with mid‑market and enterprise B2B accounts as executive sponsor and set the standard for quality, and develop your team and processes that allow the practice to grow. This role reports to the Managing Director, who is leading Directive's communications division. You'll be key leadership within that vision, responsible for executing at a high level, holding your team accountable, and ensuring clients get exceptional work every engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Managing Director to operate Directive's communications division across PR, Influencer, and Organic Social.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert across all three practice areas. You set the standard of excellence and champion your team.
  • Manage the division P&L, including revenue targets, staffing models, utilization, and margin.
  • Serve as the senior exec sponsor on communications accounts, delivering strategic counsel to C‑suite and senior marketing stakeholders, as a point of escalation.
  • Interface with the Head of Client Strategy to ensure service lines work seamlessly together.
  • Build, manage, and develop a team of communications professionals by hiring, onboarding, coaching, and holding them to a high bar.
  • Create and enforce quality standards and delivery frameworks that produce consistently excellent client work.
  • Develop integrated communications strategies for B2B clients across earned, shared, and owned channels.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong media relationships across trade, business, and tech press.
  • Lead B2B influencer strategy, identifying the right voices — from analysts to industry creators — to amplify client narratives.
  • Oversee organic social strategy as an extension of communications, ensuring your team maintains brand voice consistency and audience engagement.
  • Assist in driving new business development: act as a subject matter expert from operations on client proposals in partnership with the Managing Director and Growth team.
  • Identify and execute cross‑sell opportunities in partnership with Directive's other service lines.
  • Establish KPIs and reporting frameworks that tie communications programs to real business outcomes.
  • Contribute thought leadership internally and externally to establish Directive's communications practice in the market.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top communications talent.

What You Offer / Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in communications and PR.
  • Experience in the B2B sector.
  • Agency experience a must.
  • Deep expertise across PR, media relations, influencer, and organic social — you can do the work, teach the work, and raise the bar on the work.
  • Experience managing a P&L and owning the operational health of a team or practice.
  • Strong media relationships and a track record of earning meaningful coverage in trade, business, and tech press for B2B clients.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute B2B influencer programs, including analysts, industry thought leaders, and emerging creator channels (podcasts, Substacks, LinkedIn).
  • Experience developing organic social strategy as part of an integrated communications program.
  • Demonstrated success managing and growing enterprise B2B client accounts.
  • Track record of tying communications strategy to measurable business outcomes — brand awareness, share of voice, pipeline influence, and revenue.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex B2B narratives into compelling stories.
  • Familiarity with AI tools and how they're reshaping media targeting, content creation, and measurement.
  • Willingness to travel to visit clients on an as‑needed basis.

What Success Looks Like

  • You encompass our core values through every interaction; internally and externally.
  • Meet and exceed department level KPIs such as topline revenue, gross margin, client goal attainment (North Star Metrics), client growth (NRR), and Client Satisfaction scores.
  • Build client trust and relationships that create consistent renewals.
  • Cross‑sell services that align with client goals and objectives.
  • Exceptional decision making, as it relates to strategic direction for accounts.

What We Offer

  • Compensation for this role includes a competitive base salary.
  • Medical, dental, vision plans, disability, and life insurance coverage for you and your family that fit your lifestyle, including a 100% employer‑paid plan for you and a 50% employer contribution for your dependents (US, CAD, MX).
