Overview
PERSONAL ASSISTANT required for an 85-year-old male. HOURS: 11 hours per week with a maximum of 80 miles per week at 45p per mile. Visits and times to be agreed with the individual. Direct payments in lieu of community support. The role provides 11 hours per week via one Personal Assistant and a maximum of 80 miles per week. The role supports the individual with social activities, life skills and leisure opportunities both in the home and in the community. Assistance and transport to visit a boat docked at Burry Port Harbour. Establishing a routine for general housekeeping, support with correspondence, assisting with making and attending appointments, assistance and transport with meal planning and grocery shopping, socialisation, and access to the community. The individual enjoys coffee or a meal out before or after completing grocery shopping and has expressed loneliness with a wish to build community relationships. The individual’s first language is English; they also speak German, French and Dutch (as does their parrot!). There is a parrot at the property that can occasionally swear (usually kept in its cage) and the individual owns a dog.
Principal duties and responsibilities
- Supporting the employer with encouragement in gaining independence
- Enabling the employer to interact socially in their community
- Providing support to the employer whilst shopping and attending activities of interest
- Supporting the employer to develop independent living skills
- To provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation and providing social interaction
- Encouraging the employer to attend appointments
- Ensuring the employer’s safety at all times during working hours
- Carrying out any other reasonable tasks requested by the employer during working hours
- Ensuring compliance with Data Protection Act
- Being mindful of safeguarding issues, and reporting any concerns to Carmarthenshire County Council immediately on (01267 228751)
- Being responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should medical assistance be needed

- Able to develop long-term supportive and consistent relationships with employers
- A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is likely to be required, depending on the needs of the employer and whether you live within walking distance
- You must be prepared to have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours
- Be prepared to undergo training in order to best meet the employer’s needs
