DLG is evolving. Across every facet of our business, our teams are embracing new opportunities and putting customers at the heart of everything they do. By joining them, you’ll have the opportunity to not just be recognised for your skills but encouraged to build upon them and empowered to do your absolute best.
At Direct Line Group (DLG), we’re transforming how we manage risk and controls. As part of this, we’ve created a Chief Controls Office (CCO) within the first line of defence, dedicated to strengthening risk management, embedding a robust control environment, and fostering a strong risk-aware culture across the business.
We’re looking for a Senior Risk Manager to play a key role in partnering with the Motor Division, its Managing Director, and Leadership Team. If you have a background in risk within a motor insurance product team or a pricing and underwriting function, this is an opportunity to drive meaningful change in a fast-moving environment.
What You\’ll Be Doing
You will join the CCO as a Risk Manager reporting to the Head of Risk (Motor Division) as part of a dedicated team comprising you, a second Risk Manager, and two Risk Analysts.
The key areas of delivery focus for your role will be:
Key Accountabilities
- Embedding a strong risk culture: ensuring Finance understands and takes ownership of its risks and control environment.
- Supporting the Motor Division on its risk maturity journey, providing guidance on the Group’s Risk Framework and how to embed it effectively.
- Supporting risk management and the Risk & Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) process for Motor and Pricing & Underwriting Centre of Excellence (“Motor”) – ensuring risks are properly identified, assessed, and managed.
- Improving control documentation and evidencing – ensuring Motor has a clear, well-documented, and auditable control environment.
- Supporting control remediation activities – addressing control deficiencies with the right actions, at the right time, to strengthen the control environment.
- Acting as a trusted risk advisor to the Motor division, supporting decision-making and enhancing risk oversight.
- Enhancing risk reporting – leveraging Workiva and other MI to provide clear, actionable insights.
- Collaborating across teams, including working closely with the Central Control Testing & Assurance Teams, as well as the Central Policy, Framework, and Reporting Team within the Chief Controls Office.
Location and Work Model
We have offices around the UK. For this role, our preference is that you are based in Glasgow, Leeds, or London. Our hybrid model offers a balance of in-office and remote work, with colleagues spending at least 2 days a week in the office, depending on their role and team.
What You\’ll Need
- Extensive risk and controls experience (1st or 2nd line of defence) within a highly regulated environment, ideally motor insurance.
- Technical knowledge of risk management, control frameworks, and assurance processes.
- A proven track record of embedding risk management and control frameworks or delivering control enhancements in insurance product or pricing and underwriting environments.
- Strong stakeholder management skills – ability to influence, collaborate, and drive action at senior levels.
- Excellent communication skills – able to translate complex risk topics for a range of audiences.
