We are seeking a CNC Machine Shop Team Leader for a full-time, on-site role based in Chesterfield. The role involves managing daily operations within the CNC machine shop, supervising a team of machinists, ensuring production schedules are met, and maintaining quality control. The Team Leader will also handle setup and programming of CNC machines, troubleshooting any technical issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimize efficiency and output. Collaboration with the engineering team to meet client specifications and provide high-quality results is a key part of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support a team of CNC programmers, setters, and operators
  • Program, set, and operate CNC machines (Turning)
  • Allocate work, manage workloads, and ensure efficient workflow across the shop
  • Ensure all components are produced to engineering drawings and quality standards
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions
  • Drive continuous improvement in cycle times, tooling, and processes
  • Maintain health & safety standards and promote a safe working environment
  • Train and mentor team members and apprentices, supporting skills development
  • Liaise with production co-ordinator and management

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a CNC Programmer/Setter/Operator (Turning)
  • Previous supervisory or team leader experience in a machine shop environment
  • Strong knowledge of CNC programming (Fanuc/ProtoTRAK/G Codes)
  • Experience offline programming
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Experience with tooling selection, speeds, feeds, and process optimisation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing / continuous improvement techniques
  • Experience working with a variety of materials (e.g., stainless steel, aluminium, exotic alloys)
