The Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich seeks to appoint an Anglican priest to act as Chaplain to support her in her duties as Diocesan Bishop. The role of the Bishop’s Chaplain encompasses spiritual, liturgical, pastoral, research, administrative, organisational and communication responsibilities. The role requires someone with clarity of thought, the ability to work on complex issues with sensitivity and diplomacy, a keen eye for detail as well as an appreciation of wider issues, excellent administrative and interpersonal skills and the capacity to manage and prioritise their workload according to the Bishop’s work agenda. The Chaplain will advise and be a sounding board to the Bishop, and work collaboratively with other members of the Bishop’s senior team. The person appointed will need to be resilient and dependable, adaptable and approachable with emotional and spiritual intelligence to navigate a varied and challenging ministry.

Responsibilities

  • To offer wise counsel and always have the best interests of the Bishop at heart
  • Providing spiritual support to the Bishop in her own ministry; praying regularly for and with the Bishop
  • Supporting the Bishop with the process for appointing Area and Rural Deans
  • Keeping the Bishop abreast of developments and news relating to her role and ministry
  • Undertaking duties as required that support the Bishop in her engagements
