Rector in Ipswich

The Glem Valley is a welcoming and friendly benefice in a beautiful part of rural Suffolk. The four parishes are St Mary Glemsford, St James Stanstead, St Margaret Somerton and the united parish of All Saints Hartest and Holy Trinity Boxted.

Are you:

  • An energetic priest with a passion for reaching out and engaging with the community
  • A leader, but also a team player who can quickly establish a good working relationship with all the parishes
  • Able to communicate with people from a range of backgrounds
  • Keen to foster spiritual growth in our congregations and encourage the further development of mission and ministry, for example through study courses, pastoral care, and evolution of the Plan for Growth
  • Willing to engage with families and young people through schools, creative Sunday services and other activities
  • Supportive of modern, informal and traditional forms of worship, with an inclusive approach that welcomes everybody regardless of their style of worship, sexuality, marital status or gender identity?

We can offer:

  • Enthusiasm to work together as a benefice with the priest
  • Shared desire to grow as disciples of Christ and encourage new followers
  • Receptive to ideas for change and open to your ideas on developing our worship.
  • A desire for our churches to be central to village life
  • People who take their faith seriously, and who show energy, friendliness and enthusiasm.
  • Active and co-operative communities with a range of talents
  • Living in a delightful part of the country amongst friendly villages

Our style of worship in the Glem Valley benefice varies a little across the parishes, but can be described as central Anglican. Home life and a balance of work and other elements are important. We respect the fact that your hours are part time and aim to support you in keeping your time boundaried, to help you thrive. We have a four bedroomed Green Guide compliant house in Glemsford, which was established as the rectory 3 years ago. This has gas fired central heating, garage and driveway parking.

The DBF is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All postholders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to acceptable pre-appointment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced DBS check.

The care and protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults involved in church activities is the responsibility of the whole church. Everyone who participates in the life of the church has a role to play in promoting a Safer Church for all.

Safeguarding is an integral part of the mission and ministry of the church in this diocese and is in line with our Growing in God strategy. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
