The Diocese of Sheffield is looking to employ an NMC Registered Nurse in a paid position to lead their new Parish Nursing Service. This innovative service aims to improve and maintain the wholistic health and wellbeing of local people in Attercliffe and Darnall. We are seeking a Parish Nurse who feels called to serve our diverse multicultural community - supporting families, the vulnerable, and those on the margins with compassion and faith, focusing on mental health and neurodiversity.
The parish nurse role includes:
- General health education
- Personal health screening, health support and referral
- Advocating for individuals and health more widely
- Acting as health navigator and resource
- Providing spiritual care
- Supporting and training volunteers
- Liaising with other local services
- Supporting the wider health, safety and risk management of the church/organisation and congregation
Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is essential and support for revalidation can be provided. The person will be required to undertake formal role preparation and to offer spiritual care and Christian prayer when requested (it is therefore a Genuine Occupational Requirement for the applicant to be a Christian).
This is a post funded by a grant from the National Church currently up to the end of 2028 with the potential for further review to 2031. Part-Time, 28 hours per week (Other Part-Time Options Available). Working Pattern flexible, to be agreed with the hosting church. Pro Rata Salary £27,752.64 (£34,690.79 FTE), 10% employer contribution to pension, Generous Holiday Entitlement. Location: Parish of Attercliffe and Darnall in Sheffield.

The post holder is required to support the ethos, aims and objectives of the Sheffield Diocesan Board of Finance, keep up to date with developments in their area of work, participate in performance management and appraisal/personal development reviews, and engage in training and continuous professional development activities.
The post holder may be required to work outside normal office hours including occasional weekend working, subject to time off in lieu. P E R S O N S P E C I F I C A T I ON: PARISH NURSE C R I T E R I A
Qualifications/Training:
- Degree Registered nurse with experience of working with people with mental health challenges and neurodiversity (Adult/Child/Mental Health/Learning Disability)
- Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration
- Evidence of post registration education and training
- Completion of the PNMUK Preparation for Parish Nursing Practice Course or willingness to undertake this
- Regular member of a church of any Christian denomination
- Community Nursing/Specialist Mental Health Qualification
- Some theological or discipleship training
Knowledge:
- High standard of clinical expertise
- Leadership skills and the ability to motivate staff
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Decision making skills
- Good communication skills
- IT skills
- High level knowledge of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct
- Detailed knowledge of Personal Development Planning
- Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its implementations
- Knowledge of the purpose and value of Clinical Supervision and support of staff
- Understanding of, and commitment to, equal opportunities

Experience:
