The Diocese of Sheffield is looking to employ an NMC Registered Nurse in a paid position to lead their new Parish Nursing Service at St Leonards Church, Arbourthorne and surrounding area. This innovative service is provided in partnership with Parish Nursing Ministries UK and aims to improve and maintain the wholistic health and wellbeing of local people in Arbourthorne, Norfolk Park and Manor. We are seeking a Parish Nurse who feels called to serve our diverse multicultural community - supporting families, the vulnerable, and those on the margins with compassion and faith with a focus on mental health.

The parish nurse role includes:

  • General health education
  • Personal health screening, health support and referral
  • Advocating for individuals and health more widely
  • Acting as health navigator and resource
  • Providing spiritual care
  • Supporting and training volunteers
  • Liaising with other local services
  • Supporting the wider health, safety and risk management of the church/organisation and congregation.

Current UK registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is essential and support for revalidation can be provided. Right to Work in the UK: applicants must have, or be able to demonstrate that they will have, the right to work in the UK before commencing employment. The Diocese of Sheffield is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this role. The person will be required to undertake formal role preparation and to offer spiritual care and Christian prayer when requested (it is therefore a Genuine Occupational Requirement for the applicant to be a Christian).

This is a post funded by a grant from the National Church currently up to the end of 2028 with the potential for further review to 2031. Part-Time, 28 hours per week (Other Part-Time Options Available). Working Pattern flexible, to be agreed with the hosting church. Pro Rata Salary £28,000 (£35,000 FTE) 10% employer contribution to pension. Generous Holiday Entitlement. Location: St Leonards Church, Arbourthorne.

The successful candidate will provide support and care that promotes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being within the local area and wider community. Based from St Leonard's Church Arbourthorne and working across the communities of Arbourthorne, Norfolk Park and Manor. Acting as a compassionate presence engaging with the community, offering health information, referrals and signposting, particularly for vulnerable and isolated individuals.

Main duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provide health education and promote healthy lifestyle through one-to-one conversations, groups and community events.
  • Encourage preventative health care and early intervention.
  • Provide basic health screening and referrals to GP services as needed.
  • Work collaboratively, developing and maintaining strong relationships with the local GP practice, retirement community links, and Manor and Castle Development Trust.
  • Provide home visits and church-based clinics.
  • Develop supportive programmes, courses, and support groups based on needs identified.
  • Provide compassionate spiritual support appropriate to an individual's needs and wishes.
  • Maintain accurate, systematic and timely record keeping of health interventions in keeping with NMC Record Keeping guidance.

The post holder will comply with all standards, policies and procedures set by the diocese including, but not limited to, those governing safeguarding, health and safety, GDPR, confidentiality and equal opportunities. The post holder is required to support the ethos, aims and objectives of the Sheffield Diocesan Board of Finance.

Qualifications/Training required include:

  • An NMC Degree Registered nurse with experience of working with people with mental health challenges.
  • Current UK Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration.
  • Evidence of post registration education and training.
  • Completion of the PNMUK Preparation for Parish Nursing Practice online course.
  • Community Nursing/Specialist Mental Health Qualification.
  • Some theological or discipleship training.

Experience required includes:

  • A minimum of two years post-registration experience.
  • Experience of working with diverse groups and supporting families.
  • Experience of working within Community Nursing.
  • Previous management experience.

Other requirements include being a practising Christian with a deep-rooted faith and having a driving license.
