The Diocese of Monmouth is looking to appoint to the Ministry Area Support Team. This is a team working to support groups of churches across South-East Wales with general administration, finance, governance, and communication.
We are looking for someone with excellent people skills, experienced in working in finance, confident in a range of IT packages and willing to learn more. Ideally you would have knowledge and experience of churches and church finance, or other charity sectors.
Location: Office-based (Newport) with travel across the Diocese
Reports to: Ministry Area Support Officer
Contract Type: 18.75 hours a week, hours worked can be flexible, alternative hours would be considered (some evening and weekend work required)
Salary: £29,755 FTE
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing a full bookkeeping service for some churches and ministry areas (which are registered charities)
- Providing accounting reports and summaries for meetings
- Helping treasurers to correct errors in their accounts and liaising with independent examiners to enter adjustments and complete accounts
- Training new treasurers to become proficient in using the finance system
- Completing or supporting others to register for and complete gift aid applications
- Collating records for charity administration, including assisting with completion and submission of annual reports
- Assist with the production of MA budgets
- Researching contracts for energy suppliers, photocopiers etc
- General admin support for MAST
Skills Required:
- Good team player
- Excellent people skills, with experience of working with volunteers
- Good organisational, administration and time management skills
- Confident with a range of IT systems including Word, Excel, Outlook
- Willingness to learn new IT systems including MyFundAccounting
- Experience working in finance, preferably within the charity sector
- Knowledge of charity accounting guidance
- Excellent attention to detail
- Knowledge of GDPR regulations
- An awareness of Anglican worship
