Surrounded by the hills and valleys of the beautiful Derwent Valley countryside on the fringe of Consett, YMT is ideally situated, providing a wonderful location in which to live and work. If you enjoy the countryside, great company, and being part of a supportive team, this could be practically perfect in every way. Supporting both the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Bookings Administrator, we are looking for a Retreat Facilitator to actively contribute to developing the YMT Community.

Located at the Emmaus Youth Village in County Durham, we have the joy and privilege of welcoming thousands of young people each year through retreats, festivals, outreach, and diocesan initiatives. Our work continues to grow in both scale and depth, and it remains a vital expression of the Church’s commitment to forming and accompanying the next generation.

If music and laughter is what you’re after, and you enjoy working with others, having fun, working hard but with heart and purpose, then village life could be for you. You’ll join a passionate team who build real connections with young people because YMT’s Mission is rooted in helping and supporting young people encounter Christ and feel engaged and part of the life of the Church.

This is a special place to work requiring a special person and as such we are looking for:

  • Experience in Youth Ministry, retreats or equivalent pastoral activities.
  • Someone who can develop and run group participative activities where art, creativity, inspiration and faith play a key role.
  • The ability to communicate with young people, build trust, and create positive encounters.
  • The capability to build rapport from the outset reaching audiences of all levels.
  • Someone who is highly organised with great attention to detail.
  • Proactivity, passion, and someone who genuinely loves making a difference.
  • Comfort in managing multiple tasks and juggling lots of balls in the air all at the same time.
  • An outgoing, friendly, and welcoming personality.
  • A can-do, will-do attitude.

No two days at YMT are the same, so please be prepared to plan, deliver and evaluate dynamic and engaging retreat programmes at YMT, Diocesan Schools, Parishes and other locations. Enjoy leading prayers, spiritual formation and community building activities. Liaise with Teachers and Group Leaders to ensure everyone staying at the Village has an unforgettable time. Responsibilities include planning events and activities, shepherding our young guests during meals, cross-checking bookings and catering requirements, handling cash, and dealing with invoices and payments.

You are not the type of person who needs nor wants a standard Monday to Friday job. Moreover, you’ll love being on call and one of our main points of contact during residential weekends.

As you can see, we are looking for quite a lot, so what can you expect from us? A charismatic team with a truly inclusive culture where our Values of Integrity, Trust, Respect, Compassion and Service form the foundations from which all other things transcend. You will be supportive of and sympathetic to our ethos and the Catholic faith.

YMT is proud to be an equal opportunities employer, welcoming applications from individuals of all backgrounds, including those who identify as neurodivergent. We are committed to creating a workplace where diversity of thought and experience is respected and valued. If you are interested in helping us to keep our mission moving forward and we’ve managed to inspire you to help us continue creating unforgettable encounters, meaningful moments, and positive experiences in the lives of young people, then don’t delay, apply today.

The closing date for applications is 09:00 Tuesday 17th March 2026. We are not accepting applications from Recruitment Agencies and as such unsolicited submissions will not be accepted or responded to at this time.
