Overview Ely Church Building Partnership: Wisbech and Norfolk project. The Diocese of Ely is seeking quotations from suitably experienced contractors to deliver a programme of coordinated maintenance, inspection and minor repair works to historic church buildings. This opportunity is being developed for submission to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Responsibilities

  • High‑level inspections of roofs and rainwater goods, gutter and drainage clearance.
  • Minor repairs using traditional materials.
  • Production of clear inspection reports with photographs.

Programme Context

  • Up to 40 Church of England churches, predominantly Grade I and Grade II* listed buildings.
  • Four‑year programme (subject to funding).
  • Focus on preventative maintenance and early intervention.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of working on historic and listed buildings.
  • Understanding of conservation best practice.
  • Familiarity with Church of England buildings and the Faculty system.
  • Appropriate health and safety procedures and insurance.

Procurement and Participation

  • Small practices and specialist contractors are encouraged to apply.
  • The procurement process is intended to be proportionate and accessible, in line with NLHF guidance.
  • Optional site visits to two representative churches in May 2026 will help bidders understand scale, context and access constraints.
