The Parochial Church Council (PCC) of St Mary Magdalene in Wiggenhall St Mary Magdalen, Kings Lynn, PE34 1DG wishes to appoint an architect/surveyor to lead a programme of urgent repairs to the upper part of the church tower, which has been cordoned off for safety reasons.

Our existing quinquennial architect resigned due to time constraints elsewhere. We are therefore looking to appoint an experienced conservation accredited architect or surveyor to take this project forward. A recent schedule of estimated costs puts the essential works for this initial project at circa £50,000, including professional fees and VAT.

This is the first and most urgent phase in a much larger programme of repairs to remove the church building from the Heritage at Risk Register. Following this work, we would be looking to tender the major project of circa £500,000 and carry out the next quinquennial inspection, due in 2030.

The PCC has significant funds available to cover the first project. While we will need a grant for the major project, this first project will not be reliant on grant funding.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the urgent repair programme of the upper church tower.
  • Coordinate and manage the initial £50,000 works.
  • Develop the scope and tender documents for the major £500,000 project.
  • Ensure compliance with conservation and heritage regulations.
  • Prepare progress reports for the PCC and relevant funders.

Qualifications

  • Experienced conservation accredited architect or surveyor.
  • Qualifications in building conservation and heritage projects.
  • Experience in managing large repair programmes and budgets.

Deadline for quotations: Friday 24 July 2026.
