About the role
Are you caring, patient and compassionate, with the confidence to provide hands-on support to people with complex health needs?
We're looking for Relieg, Female Support Workers to join our friendly team in Sheffield, S4, supporting three wonderful ladies who share their home.
The ladies have
complex health and support needs, so this is a hands-on role where you will provide
full personal care, including
moving and handling and the use of hoists. You don't need to be worried if you haven't used a hoist before, as appropriate training will be provided. What's important is that you are comfortable providing personal care, willing to learn and committed to supporting the ladies with dignity, respect and patience.
Alongside their health and personal care needs, the ladies lead active and fulfilling lives. Your role will be about getting to know each of them as individuals, understanding how they communicate and supporting them to enjoy the things that matter to them.
Who will I be supporting?
You’ll be getting to know three very different ladies, each with their own personality, interests, communication styles and support needs.
Mary - is a Yorkshire lady through and through, complete with a Yorkshire accent she's very proud of! She loves a good musical and is always happy to join in with a karaoke session. Mary enjoys attending day centres and going out for food and drinks, but she's equally happy spending time at home with her Support Worker having a good old natter.
Claudia - has a cheeky, slapstick sense of humour and loves getting out and about. Whether it's going for something to eat, heading to a club or spending time in the community, she enjoys being involved. Claudia does not use words to communicate and instead expresses herself through sounds, noises and physical touch. She enjoys sensory stimulation and needs someone who is calm, patient and willing to take the time to understand her individual way of communicating.
Amina is passionate about her faith and culture. She loves wearing traditional clothing, particularly for celebrations, and for Amina, the more glitter and bangles, the better! She enjoys traditional foods associated with her faith and culture and loves going out for a nice meal. Spicy food is definitely a favourite!
This is a hands‑on support role, and it's important that applicants are comfortable with providing all aspects of personal care.
Responsibilities
- Full personal care, while always maintaining their dignity and privacy
- Moving and handling, including the use of hoists
- Supporting and monitoring their complex health needs in line with their individual support plans and training
- Medication administration
- Preparing meals and supporting with nutrition
- Household tasks, including cleaning and laundry
- Supporting the ladies to attend appointments, day centres and activities
- Getting out and about in the local community
- Enjoying hobbies, interests and social activities
- Encouraging choice, independence and involvement in everyday life
You’ll receive the appropriate training to support the ladies safely and confidently. Above all, we're looking for someone who understands that behind every health or support need is an individual with their own personality, choices, interests and goals.
No two days will be exactly the same. You could be providing personal care and using a hoist as part of the ladies' daily routine, and later be heading out for lunch, enjoying some karaoke or simply sitting down for a good chat.
