Summary

Seeking experienced and respectful Support Workers in Llanfrechfa, Cwmbran NP44 8TX

  • Hourly Rate £13.86; Sleep nights are paid at £50 per night
  • Full-time
  • Day Shifts; Wake Nights; Sleep Nights – 24 hour support is provided by two support colleagues during both days and nights
  • Preference will be given to applicants who hold a full UK or EU driving licence
  • The person you will be supporting has a large interest in Welsh culture and customs; therefore, a good knowledge of this would be an advantage

Dimensions are proud to have been chosen to provide the support for a gentleman, \’D\’ who lives in his own home, in Llanfrechfa, Cwmbran NP44 8TX. Over the coming months, we will be working with D, and his current support providers, to ensure D feels safe and secure as he builds relationships with his new support team.

D is a 62 year old man who has a moderate-severe learning disability, Epilepsy, Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and a diagnosis of Schizoaffective Disorder. D can experience anxiety, can have complex emotional responses to people and situations and will sometimes see and hear things that are not there. D is comforted by repetition, so your patience and understanding in this regard is essential.

It is essential that you have experience of supporting people who can have complex emotional responses, along with the ability to work with the utmost respect, integrity and compassion.

To become part of D\’s support team, you will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • a sound understanding of the complexities of autism, Epilepsy, anxiety and fluctuating mental health
  • a good understanding of positive behaviour support
  • a strong understanding of working in partnership with D, your colleagues, our external partners and D\’s family, to ensure the best outcomes are achieved with him
  • an empathic ability to enable people, who can struggle to regulate their emotions, to feel grounded and secure
  • astute communication skills and the ability to read D\’s mood through his body language and vocalisations
  • are willing to undertake Positive Behaviour Management practical & theoretical training
  • a positive approach to risk taking

In addition you will:

  • enjoy adapting your support style to D\’s needs on any given day
  • have a strong sense of the importance of maintaining relationships with family and friends
  • be able to work as part of a team and follow clear support guidance
  • understand, and not take personally, behaviours of distress which may be displayed
  • be comfortable to provide intimate personal care respectfully
