An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Practice Nurse to join our friendly team. We are seeking a team player who is flexible and has a committed attitude to work and who has experience of working within the NHS to join our extensive friendly practice team. The role will consist of the delivery of practice nursing care to our patient population, monitoring of long term conditions, health prevention and screening, and working collaboratively with the practice team to meet the needs of our population. The position is full time working weekdays between the hours of 8am - 6pm.

Main duties of the job

  • Working under direct supervision of the GPs and strictly in accordance with the specific practice guidelines and protocols.
  • Assisting in and performing routine tasks related to patient care.
  • Cervical Screening.
  • Blood Pressure monitoring.
  • ECGs.
  • Routine Immunisations including childhood immunisations.
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs etc.
  • Long term chronic condition reviews and monitoring.

  • Practice Nurses & Advanced Nurse Practitioner: Providing preventative care, chronic disease management, and essential clinical support.
  • Healthcare Assistants (HCAs): Supporting both clinical and administrative functions to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Reception & Admin Team: The friendly faces and voices who manage patient bookings, records, and ensure the practice runs efficiently.

Our current list size is approx 9,000+ patients. We use System One clinical system. We aim to provide the best possible patient care to our patients in a safe and welcoming environment.

Job responsibilities

  • Removal of Sutures / clips.
  • Urinalysis.
  • ECGs.
  • Year of Care/Chronic disease Management such as Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Hypertension.
  • Cervical cytology smear tests.
  • Health Screening.
  • General health advice.
  • Routine immunisations / Child Immunisations.
  • Routine Injections.
  • Contraception.
  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs.
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to other nurses or GPs as appropriate.
  • Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs.
  • Participate in maintaining Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required.
  • Undertake housekeeping duties including, general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms keeping a clear work surface culture.
  • Ordering of stock to maintain safe stock levels & cash control.
  • Ordering of vaccinations to maintain safe stock levels & cash control.
  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate and contemporaneous records.
  • A duty to advise Practice manager and Partners of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks.
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.
  • Flexibility of working to ensure sufficient cover is provided for nurse holidays/sickness.
  • Maintain effective liaison with other agencies & staff concerned with patient care.
  • Co-operate & participate as required in any research projects within the practice.

Person Specification

  • RGN Experience of working in Primary Care.
  • Management and education of patients with chronic diseases.
  • Childhood immunisations.
  • Understanding of department of health policies/GMS contract: QOF/NICE guidance in relation to Primary Care.
  • Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse.
  • RCN Nurse Practitioner Qualification MSc/PgDip Nurse Practitioner (Primary Care) or Masters degree (Advanced Practice).
  • Current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Basic IT Skills.
  • Enthusiastic team player.
  • Diplomas in chronic disease management.
