Responsibilities

  • Assist the clinical team under direct supervision of the lead nurse and GPs in delivering prescribed clinical care programmes.
  • Perform phlebotomy, ECG recording, injections (B12/Flu), BP checks and labelling of samples.
  • Conduct new patient health checks and chronic disease observation monitoring.
  • Carry out urinalysis/pregnancy testing, NHS Healthchecks and administer vaccinations under PSD.
  • Support childhood and adolescent immunisations, maintain child health and practice records, complete claims and report issues.
  • Provide lifestyle advice to patients and make referrals within the practice.
  • Carry out weight monitoring and ensure all specimens are labelled, bagged and paperwork completed; maintain sharps bags ready for collection.
  • Restock and maintain equipment and clinical areas, ensuring stock rotation.
  • Assist in minor surgery and sexual health clinics, oversee vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording.
  • Participate in administrative duties, recording all consultations and treatments accurately in patient notes and keeping the clinical computer system updated.
  • Compile and maintain statistical information required for regular and ad-hoc reports; attend practice meetings as required.
  • Assist in seasonal and special projects such as flu campaigns; order and display health promotion materials.
  • Follow the protocols and procedures of the practice, taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance.
  • Perform other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post.

Experience

  • Experience working in primary care with good organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Experience using computers and good typing skills.
  • Experience working in General Practice.
  • Experience using SystmOne.

Qualifications

  • General education to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Care certificate or willingness to work towards one.
  • NVQ Level 3 in care.
  • Qualified in Phlebotomy.

  • This position does not offer a working visa.
  • This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a submission to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
