Dignus Group has been supporting people for over 20 years, primarily within Adult Residential and Supported Living services. We are now expanding into Children's Residential Care and opening a brand-new children's home made up of seven single-occupancy flats in Birmingham. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced Children's Home Manager to help set up, shape, and lead a new service from the very beginning. Our home will support children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs. We aim to create a safe, caring, and homely environment where every child can thrive.

The Role

As the Registered Manager, you will be responsible for the full running of the home. You will not be doing this alone - the Registered Manager will receive strategic oversight, professional guidance, and reflective support from the Responsible Individual (RI), while maintaining full autonomy in day-to-day operational decisions and referral assessments. This ensures confident and accountable leadership within the home, with the reassurance of experienced support as the service becomes established.

Your main duties will include:

  • Leading the setup and Ofsted registration of the new home
  • Ensuring the home meets Children's Homes Regulations (2015) and Ofsted standards
  • Supporting and managing the staff team to deliver high-quality care
  • Acting as the Designated Safeguarding Lead and ensuring children are always safe
  • Overseeing care plans, behaviour support, and daily routines
  • Creating a warm, welcoming, and child-centred environment across the seven single-occupancy flats
  • Managing budgets, rotas, and resources
  • Working closely with senior leaders to build a positive culture
  • Taking part in the 24-hour on-call rota

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading a team, solving problems, and building a high-quality service from scratch.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Health & Social Care (or equivalent)
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care, or willingness to complete it
  • Willingness to register with Ofsted as the Registered Manager
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience as a Registered Manager or Deputy Manager in a children's home
  • Strong understanding of Children's Homes Regulations and Ofsted inspections
  • Experience supporting children with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs
  • Good knowledge of safeguarding, behaviour support, and relevant legislation

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to build and motivate a positive staff team
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage a busy workload
  • Confident in supervising staff and managing performance
  • Able to remain calm and make sound decisions in challenging situations
  • Comfortable using ICT systems
