We’re looking for an experienced and compassionate individual to join our team as a Funeral Director at our Asian Funeral Directors in Handsworth, Birmingham. This role has a particular focus on supporting families from Asian communities, ensuring funerals are delivered with dignity, cultural sensitivity, and the highest professional standards. You’ll oversee funeral operations while supporting families through one of life’s most challenging moments. As a representative of both the local brand and the wider Dignity Group, you’ll play a vital role in building trusted relationships within the local community and providing culturally respectful funeral care.

You will work closely with families from a variety of backgrounds, including those following Hindu, Sikh and Muslim traditions, ensuring services are carried out in line with individual wishes and customs. You’ll coordinate teams with care, take accountability for high-quality service delivery, and lead by example every day—ensuring families feel supported, understood, and respected.

Your Impact and Responsibilities…

As a Funeral Director, you are a calm and reassuring presence at the heart of our funeral care. You will support families through one of the most emotional experiences of their lives, helping them feel informed, respected, and cared for throughout the entire journey. From the first meeting through to the day of the funeral and beyond, you’ll guide families with clarity and compassion, supporting aftercare, ashes, memorialisation, and funeral plans in a culturally sensitive way.

As a Funeral Director, you will:

  • Lead funeral services with professionalism, cultural awareness, and attention to detail
  • Run pre-funeral briefings to ensure services are fully understood and well-coordinated
  • Take a consultative approach, helping families explore options and understand what is possible
  • Work collaboratively with arrangers, specialists, Funeral Directors and care teams
  • Support the management of diaries, resources and records
  • Assist with coffin preparation, care of the deceased, and chapel duties where required
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and training to less experienced colleagues
  • Support local community engagement and brand promotion, building relationships with care homes, celebrants, places of worship, and local ethnic and religious groups
  • Act as a liaison between service and client delivery teams to ensure seamless scheduling and coordination

Skills and Knowledge…

We’re looking for someone with/is:

  • Has previous experience leading funerals, working with the deceased, and supporting families
  • Has strong knowledge of funeral processes and legal and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills
  • Is calm under pressure, with a compassionate and respectful approach
  • Is physically capable of manual handling tasks, including coffin bearing
  • Can work flexibly, including weekends and on-call duties
  • Holds a Full UK Driving Licence (essential)

Language skills: While not compulsory, applicants would benefit from speaking Punjabi, Hindi or Urdu, to help support families within the local Asian community.
