You are entrusted with the care of the deceased and ensuring families' wishes are met. You conduct yourself with respect and dignity, understanding the privilege of the work you do, and support Funeral Directors in delivering seamless services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dignified and professional care for the deceased
  • Support Funeral Directors in delivering seamless service and ceremonial work
  • Drive and operate specialist vehicles (hearses, limousines, private ambulances) and maintain high standards of presentation
  • Participate in an out‑of‑hours on‑call rota (including nights and weekends) to support families and ensure dignified collection and transfer of the deceased
  • Bring the deceased into our care from the place of death – including private homes, hospitals, hospices, or public spaces – under varying circumstances
  • Prepare the deceased (washing, dressing, presentation) in accordance with family, religious or cultural wishes
  • Support chapel visits and interact with families in a calm and respectful manner
  • Carry out all duties involving the deceased with the utmost care and professionalism

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates empathy, professionalism, and composure under pressure
  • Respects and cares for colleagues and families with a compassionate approach
  • Physically capable of manual handling tasks, including lifting and carrying
  • Comfortable working in direct contact with the deceased in various conditions
  • Reliable, flexible, and able to work outside standard hours when required
  • Maintains a professional and dignified appearance
  • Holds a full UK driving licence (essential)
  • No prior funeral experience required – training, uniform and support will be provided
