Are you a commercially minded, insight‑driven accountant who thrives on end‑to‑end ownership? This is a rare opportunity to take full responsibility for the financial reporting, control and performance insight of Dignity’s funeral plans business — a regulated, long‑term product with significant strategic importance. We’re looking for someone who can combine technical excellence with commercial curiosity, strengthening our understanding of trust performance, deferred income and long‑term financial drivers. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys improving systems, shaping processes and acting as a trusted adviser to senior leadership.
About The Role
As Trust Management Accountant, you will own the full P&L, balance sheet governance and financial control environment for our funeral plans business. You’ll work closely with the Director of Finance and the Managing Director of Plans, translating complex financial data into meaningful insight that supports decision‑making at the highest level. You’ll also play a key role in enhancing systems, data flows and reporting architecture — helping to build a more scalable, automated and insight‑led finance environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Control
- Full ownership of the end‑to‑end P&L for the funeral plans business
- Lead a high‑quality month‑end close, including accruals, journals and reconciliations
- Maintain rigorous balance sheet governance and strong financial controls
- Oversee controls around third‑party insurance letters and audit readiness
- Trust & Deferred Income Management
- Provide deep insight into trust performance, deferred income and P&L impact
- Own and enhance deferred income models, ensuring accuracy and regulatory alignment
- Collaborate with actuarial, commercial and finance teams to ensure consistent assumptions and data integrity
- Champion improvements to trust modelling and reporting quality
- Performance Insight & Analysis
- Deliver insightful monthly analysis with clear commentary and recommendations
- Identify trends, risks and opportunities across revenue, cost, cash and trust performance
- Support forecasting, budgeting and long‑term planning with robust models
- Systems, Process & Data Improvement
- Lead enhancements to finance and trust systems
- Identify opportunities for automation and standardisation
- Strengthen data flows and architecture to support better reporting and compliance
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Provide high‑quality ad‑hoc analysis, scenario modelling and business case support
- Communicate complex financial concepts clearly to non‑finance stakeholders
- Build strong relationships across Plans, Finance and senior leadership

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Solid experience in management accounting, financial reporting or FP&A
- Full month‑end ownership and strong balance sheet governance
- Experience with deferred income, trust structures or regulated/long‑term products (advantageous)
- Proven ability to produce insight‑led commentary and analysis
- Track record of improving processes and strengthening controls
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
- Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivots, modelling)
- Experience with ERP/reporting systems and large datasets
- Strong communicator, organised, proactive and solutions‑focused
