Make Payroll Matter
At Dignity, we're transforming one of the UK's most established and respected service organisations. Behind every colleague delivering exceptional care to families is a payroll team ensuring they're paid accurately, on time and with complete confidence. We're looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to take ownership of our end-to-end payroll operation, lead a skilled team, and drive continuous improvement across systems, processes and service delivery. This is far more than a processing role; it's an opportunity to shape the future of payroll within a business undergoing significant transformation and growth.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading the delivery of accurate, compliant and customer-focused payroll services across Dignity, ensuring our colleagues receive an exceptional experience every month.
- Owning the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring payrolls are delivered accurately and on time.
- Acting as the subject matter expert for payroll, pensions, HMRC compliance and statutory requirements.
- Leading and developing the payroll team, creating a high-performance culture focused on service excellence.
- Driving process improvements, operational efficiencies and payroll best practice.
- Managing payroll reporting, analytics and compliance activities.
- Working closely with stakeholders across HR, Finance and the wider business to resolve complex payroll matters.
- Supporting system enhancements and continuous improvement initiatives, including Oracle Cloud payroll processes.
Why this role is different
At Dignity, we're modernising our infrastructure, systems and ways of working. Payroll plays a critical role in that journey. You'll have the opportunity to:
- Influence how payroll services are delivered across a national organisation.
- Lead meaningful improvement projects rather than simply maintaining processes.
- Shape team capability and future ways of working.
- Work in a business where your expertise genuinely impacts thousands of colleagues every month.
- Become a trusted advisor on all payroll and pension matters.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- Significant payroll leadership experience in a large, complex organisation.
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and pensions administration.
- Experience managing end-to-end payroll processes and leading payroll teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the confidence to influence at all levels.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Experience with payroll systems, ideally Oracle Cloud.
- A CIPP qualification (or equivalent professional payroll qualification).
You'll be:
- Detail-oriented and highly organised.
- Naturally curious and always looking for better ways of working.
- Customer-focused and passionate about providing an outstanding service.
- A confident leader who develops and motivates others.
- Commercially aware, data-driven and solutions-focused.
- Comfortable navigating change and driving improvements in a fast-moving environment.
What you can expect from us
- 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
- Opportunity to earn a yearly bonus of up to £500.
- Private medical cover for you.
- 4% matched pension contribution.
- Life assurance cover at 2x your salary.
- Access to a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme.
- Ongoing development opportunities, including apprenticeships and clear career progression pathways.
- Access to MyStaffShop, our employee rewards platform.
- Free on-site parking available at most of our locations.

Why Dignity
Dignity exists to help every family in Britain navigate the hardest moments of life with simplicity, dignity, kindness and exceptional care. Our head office teams, across functions like finance, HR, marketing and IT, make sure the people working directly with families have what they need to do that well. Dignity is going through a real period of change. We're building better systems, simplifying how things work, and strengthening the business for the long term, and head office plays a big part in making that happen. We look for people who take pride in their work, support their colleagues, and want to keep learning. You'll be part of a close team, and you'll be able to see the difference your work makes, even when you're not working with families directly. If you're looking for a role with variety, a supportive team, and the chance to grow, Dignity is a good place to be.
