As part of continued growth, a Tier 1 civil engineering contractor is recruiting a Lead Managing Quantity Surveyor to join their expanding Water Division on a recently awarded energy and utilities infrastructure project. This role offers an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor or Managing Quantity Surveyor the opportunity to step into a senior leadership position with fast-track progression to Commercial Manager. The business is highly people-focused, placing strong emphasis on staff welfare, professional development, training, and long-term career progression. While this role sits within the Water Division, the wider group has a strong footprint across civil engineering, utilities, rail, aviation, and construction.

The Role

Lead Managing Quantity Surveyor

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support the commercial team (training, coaching, appraisals, and development)
  • Encourage collaboration between Commercial and Project Management teams
  • Agree, monitor, and review personal objectives across the commercial function
  • Provide contractual and commercial advice to the operations and delivery teams
  • Manage, review, and expand the subcontractor supply chain
  • Raise and manage new subcontracts, ensuring compliance with governance procedures
  • Carry out subcontract evaluations, assess applications for payment, and authorise payments
  • Work closely with the Operational Lead to ensure accurate commercial reporting, identify risk, and maximise commercial opportunities

Experience Required

  • HNC / BSc in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
  • Minimum 6 years experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Managing Quantity Surveyor
  • Background in civil engineering, water, utilities, or infrastructure projects
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC forms of contract
  • Experience gained with a Tier 1 main contractor or reputable subcontractor
  • Stable career history with proven leadership capability
