Responsibilities
- Maintain appropriate, sensitive relationships with patients and families.
- Assist with eating, drinking, and personal hygiene.
- Report significant changes in patients' conditions.
- Maintain appropriate, sensitive, caring, and tactful relationships with patients, families, and carers.
- Assist in the implementation of all care for which they are competent to practice under the direct supervision of registered staff, in accordance with St Giles Hospice policies and procedures.
- Assist patients with daily living activities according to individual care plans under supervision of registered nurses.
- Maintain patients' personal hygiene and appearance.
- Assist with eating, drinking, toileting, and access to toilet facilities.
- Help make patients comfortable and support them and their families, especially at end of life.
- Report significant changes in patients' conditions to registered nurses.
- Refer patients and relatives to other hospice services as appropriate.
- Support registered nurses with technical care and record keeping, such as vital signs and specimen collection.
- Exchange factual information and offer support to patients, families, and colleagues.
- Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with guidance and training.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Assist with care after death and follow appropriate clinical procedures after training.
- Adhere to health and safety policies, and participate in educational activities.
- Comply with all hospice policies, procedures, and guidelines, and handle equipment and valuables responsibly.
- Perform other duties as required, learn new skills, and support voluntary staff as needed.
- Supervise less experienced Healthcare Assistants when appropriate and communicate effectively with the team.
