Main duties of the job
- Carrying out basic observations (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, height).
- Collecting blood samples (phlebotomy).
- Performing ECGs and NHS health checks.
- Assisting with wound care, dressings, and minor procedures.
- Supporting vaccination and immunisation programmes.
- Giving lifestyle advice (smoking cessation, weight management, healthy living).
- Preparing and maintaining clinics and equipment.
- Following infection prevention and control procedures.
- Supporting the nursing team with delegated tasks.
- Providing patients with information and reassurance to aid self-care.

Patient care
- New patient health checks
- NHS health checks
- Venepuncture
- Urine testing/analysis
- Blood pressure measurement/monitoring
- ECG
- Height, weight measurement
- Ear syringing
- Lifestyle advice
- Spirometry monitoring
- Oral glucose tolerance testing
- Diabetic foot checks
- H pylori test
- To partake audits and research as deemed appropriate.
- Assist in the INR clinics working within the remits of the practice Protocol.
- Smoking Cessation
- Chaperoning
With nurse/ GP support, assist with the following:
- Minor surgery procedures including joint injections
- IUD insertion and removal
- Implanon insertion and removal
- Learning Disability Clinics
- Child immunisation clinics
On the basis of a Patient Specific Direction and with signed authorisation:
- Shingles immunisation
- Flu immunisation
- Pneumococcal immunisation
- Vitamin B12 injections
Record keeping and administration
- Make accurate and contemporaneous records of all patient encounters in accordance with practice records guidelines.
- Contribute to nursing team record keeping (clinical, administrative, Health and Safety related records).
- Maintain skills in using patient appointment system.
