An award-winning professional services firm is looking for a SQL Database Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure databases that power business operations and legal systems. This is a key role within the technology team, working with both on-premises SQL Server and Azure SQL databases to optimise performance, security, and reliability.
Location: onsite in Guildford 5 days per week
Salary: up to £65k per annum
Responsibilities
- Database Development – Design and implement efficient database structures for new and existing applications.
- SQL Optimisation – Develop and maintain T-SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and triggers for performance improvements.
- Database Administration – Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise databases for reliability and scalability.
- Performance Tuning – Implement indexing, query optimisation, and resource management.
- Security & Compliance – Manage user permissions, encryption, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaboration – Work with developers, data engineers, and business teams to align database solutions with business needs.
What You’ll Need
- Proven experience as a Database Developer or DBA.
- Expertise in SQL Server and Azure SQL, including database design and optimisation.
- Strong T-SQL skills (queries, stored procedures, functions).
- Experience with performance tuning, backup strategies, and high availability.
- Knowledge of data security best practices and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with Azure Data Services (Data Factory, Storage).
- Understanding of DevOps, version control (Git), and automation.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of ETL, data warehousing, and PowerShell scripting.
- Microsoft certifications (Azure Database Administrator, SQL Server).
