We’re working with a highly reputable MEP consultancy based in Birmingham that delivers turnkey building services design across the UK. Due to continued project wins, they’re now looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Designer to lead the full mechanical scope of works across a range of fast-paced retail projects.
The Role
- You’ll take ownership of the full mechanical design lifecycle — from early-stage concept through to detailed technical drawings and IFC (Issued for Construction) packs — using Revit as your primary design tool.
- You will be responsible for:
- Producing detailed HVAC and public health system designs
- Working as part of a wider BIM and MEP team to deliver coordinated Revit models
- Completing load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, layouts and schematics
- Supporting pre-construction phases with technical documentation, specs, and client presentations
- Ensuring designs meet CIBSE guidelines, Part L compliance, and all relevant building standards
The majority of work involves retail rollouts, including fit-outs and refurbishments for major brands – meaning you’ll need to be comfortable with fast turnaround programmes and tight coordination across disciplines.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years' experience in mechanical building services design (HVAC, public health)
- Strong proficiency with Revit MEP (essential) and familiarity with AutoCAD or MagiCAD
- Understanding of relevant standards and regulations (CIBSE, British Standards, etc.)
- Confident working across all RIBA stages, ideally on retail or commercial schemes
- Comfortable working in a collaborative design team with electrical and BIM counterparts
Be part of a technically strong, agile team where your input directly shapes delivery. Ready to design the future of retail? Apply now or message Louis Taylor at louis@digitalwaffle.co
