About The Role:
We are looking for a Freelance Unity Level Designer to join our team on a fixed–term contract running until the end of December 2025. This remote role is project–assignment based, giving you the flexibility to work from anywhere in the world and manage your own hours.
You will help expand a critically acclaimed, realistic VR shooter on Oculus Quest 3 by designing and delivering three new gameplay arenas. A clear production timeline is in place, with milestones set for each arena leading up to the final delivery before Christmas.
Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Design and build greybox prototypes of combat arenas, both independently and in collaboration with other level designers and artists.
- Apply strong level design fundamentals by building clean layouts, sightlines, cover, traversal options, and encounter flow to support engaging combat.
- Interpret and expand upon existing designs and references while exercising creative freedom.
- Implement and adapt interactive gameplay assets from the studio’s asset library or external marketplaces.
- Place and balance enemy spawn points, interactive objects, colliders, and basic gameplay hooks (e.g., triggers, objectives, or extraction points) using Blueprint logic where needed.
- Share regular progress updates and actively participate in playtesting, feedback, and iterative design loops.
- Create clear and detailed level documentation for environment artists when required.
- Work within established game design metrics and level constraints.
- Ensure effective and reliable bot navigation across all designed levels.
- Test and refine levels daily on Oculus Quest 3 hardware.
- Take ownership of gameplay and level design elements, ensuring functionality, balance, and overall quality from early development through to final sign-off.
- Communicate and anticipate production needs effectively.

Skills & Requirements:
- Skills representing 3+ years of relevant professional experience as a level designer of FPP shooters.
- Among multiple titles you worked on, at least one that was released, was made in Unity Engine and in VR.
- Proficiency and experience with the whole level design creation process in Unity.
- Understanding extraction shooter loops and FPS readability.
- Experience building maps PvEvP spaces and knowledge of callout conventions and map readability.
- Experience using Fork Git, Jira and Confluence is a plus.
- Experience working in both settings; office studio and from home as a freelancer is welcomed.
- Understanding the importance of communication and collaborative problem-solving skills.
- Growth mindset. Critical and independent thinking.
- High level of creativity and independence with little oversight.
- Being a self driven and assertive individual with developed good tasks and time management skills & practices.
- Proven ability to prioritise and execute ideas within a time schedule and other production requirements.
- Successfully handling undertaken scope of work and responsibilities, while working with a bigger picture in mind.
- Strong foundation of level design skills.
- Understanding of level blocking, spatial composition, and what makes games fun to play.
- Great sense of spatial relations and structural logic.
- Ability to provide clear and consistent feedback and critique based on direction and any technical considerations.
- Experience with and strong understanding of current generation production pipelines and workflows.
