The Lead Engineer directs daily the Operations Site Team, its associated activities and Vendors to ensure that the Data Center is operated and maintained safely, within SLA, and with minimal risk. As the main point of contact, the Lead Engineer undertakes the day-to-day management of all activities of the Technical Operations Site Team, ensuring that all reactive and planned maintenance tasks are delivered to agreed timelines and SLAs/KPIs with full utilization of CMMS system and incidents are dealt with appropriately.

What you'll do

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, regulatory standards, and permit systems, overseeing all on-site works.
  • Lead response to building services infrastructure issues, coordinating with Site Engineers and engaging third-party specialists when necessary.
  • Coordinate incident management, maintaining & issuing incident reports using CMMS systems.
  • Operate within defined Service Operations processes and work within site-specific standard operating procedures.
  • Undertake duties as required as an HV Authorized Person in all aspects required in the operation of an operational facility, from safe isolations to issuing of permits to work.
  • Manage planned and reactive maintenance tasks on building services infrastructure, ensuring compliance with CMMS systems and operational procedures.
  • Monitor SLA compliance, communicate effectively with client representatives, and facilitate incident management processes.
  • With support from Site Engineers, and in collaboration with the Technical Ops planning team, oversee the initial supervision of Specialist Service Contractors, conducting inductions, approving minor works listed on service report sheets.
  • Provide support to Data Center and Site Management teams, including communication assistance, technical information provision, and holiday/sickness coverage coordination.

What you'll need

  • Strong experience working in mission-critical mechanical & electrical environments.
  • Experience in data centers or a similar environment is essential.
  • Knowledge of key infrastructure components of DCs (like UPS’s, Generators, and Cooling systems).
  • Recognized formal electrical training (City and Guilds etc.).
  • Experience and Knowledge of the Operation of Critical Building infrastructure (Electrical, Mechanical, and Building Fabric).
  • ITIL and/or Service Now Experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Can prepare & present relevant information in front of all types of audiences.
  • Decision maker, good decision-making skills based on analysis of risk situations.
  • Must be self-driven, well organised, and able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Reliable, setting high standards of personal commitment.
  • Open for change, adapt to change, is open to new ideas, takes on new responsibilities, handles pressure, adjusts plans to meet changing site needs, proactive, has a can-do attitude, and can delegate when appropriate.

Responsibilities

The Manager is responsible for authorizing and overseeing electrical operations, ensuring all activities comply with safety regulations and company standards. They provide technical guidance on complex electrical works, manage safety permitting processes, and interpret and administer Electrical Safety Rules. The role involves training and assessing both internal staff and external suppliers, conducting regular audits, and vetting the competence of contractors. They collaborate closely with various teams to uphold safety and compliance across national data center operations, while also administering and improving safe systems of work. The manager is expected to proactively identify and resolve safety issues, maintain thorough documentation, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
