Information Governance is a professional service team within the Governance and Legal Services Directorate. Working collaboratively with colleagues within the Directorate and across the University, we support the University’s mission and contribute to its strategic priorities. We promote effective information governance to support University business worldwide and manage information risk to meet relevant legal, regulatory, and audit requirements.

Joining the University during an exciting period of digital transformation, the role holder will work collaboratively and supportively with other members of the Information Governance team. The role involves providing timely, expert advice and guidance to the University community on lifecycle information governance, playing a key role in delivering the Information and Records Management Programme, and helping to embed data protection by design within strategic and operational activities.

Detailed Description

The role holder will provide specialist advice on information and records management and data protection to enable the University to optimise the use of information and manage information risks throughout its lifecycle. Reporting to the Head of Information Governance and Data Protection Officer (HIG&DPO), and working collaboratively with other team members, responsibilities include:

  • Working with the Records Manager to recommend policies, procedures, and guidance for effective information and records management across the Global University.
  • Collaborating with the Information Governance Officer (Data Protection) to provide expert advice on embedding data protection by design and default, and ensuring data subject rights are upheld in systems and processes.
  • Promoting effective information governance in system and application design to realize business benefits, meet operational and regulatory requirements, and mitigate risks, ensuring users handle data responsibly by default.
  • Assisting in reviewing and monitoring compliance with data protection and information governance standards across all campuses.
  • Providing expert advice on record keeping and overseeing external records storage and retrieval services.
  • Supporting the management of data protection and freedom of information requests, and investigating potential data breaches.
