Duties and Responsibilities
This position is located in the Information Systems Management Section (ISMS) of the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism for Syria (IIIM).
The Digital Preservation Consultant will report to the Chief of that Section and be responsible for the following duties:
β’ Assess IIIM\βs digital preservation requirements (via gap and risk analysis) to conform with recognized Trusted Digital Repository standards e.g. ISO 16363 (Audit and certification of trustworthy digital repositories) or an alternative framework appropriate for the IIIM agreed with the project team (e.g. Rapid Assessment Model by the Digital Preservation Coalition).
β’ Identify recommended improvement areas for existing processes to preserve digital records arising from administrative and substantive functions, including evidence management.
β’ Consult with IIIM\βs internal and external stakeholders regarding each stakeholder\βs digital preservation requirements and responsibilities. Notes and minutes of these consultations shall be provided in the form of an Annex to the gap and risk analysis report.
β’ Develop a draft IIIM Digital Preservation Strategy that includes:
β Technical, procedural, and organizational measures to guarantee long term digital preservation in IIIM in conformance with the Reference Model of an Open Archival Information System (OAIS) ISO 14721.
β A procedure for change management and a communication plan for promoting awareness of the strategy across IIIM stakeholders.
β Estimate resources required (in cost and time) to implement the strategy.
Output/Work Assignments
β’ A gap and risk analysis against digital preservation standards.
β’ First draft of the gap and risk analysis report should be submitted at the end of the 1st month of the consultancy.
β’ First draft of the strategy should be submitted at the end of the 2nd month of the consultancy.
β’ Stakeholders will be given two weeks to read and comment on the report and strategy.
β’ From the middle of the 3rd month, individual and/or group meetings may be organized to finalize and incorporate inputs.
