The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) is a world-leading digital repository providing digital data archiving services for UK archaeology. We are a recognized component of UKRI’s research infrastructure and hold the CoreTrustSeal. Based at the University of York, we collaborate with external partners in Higher Education, public, and commercial archaeological sectors. Our internal bespoke systems support digital preservation workflows, and we host public-facing services such as ADS-easy for online file deposition and OASIS for recording UK fieldwork events, on behalf of national heritage agencies. Located within the Department of Archaeology in the medieval King’s Manor building in central York, the successful applicant will be a staff member at the University of York, enjoying benefits including a pension scheme and flexible hybrid working policy.

Role

The Digital Archives Assistant role is an entry-level position aimed at developing the next generation of digital archivists. The main responsibility is to perform routine administrative and IT processes to support the smooth operation of the ADS and assist Digital Archivists. The post-holder will be line-managed by the ADS Collections Development Manager. This fixed-term trainee role is typically for 3 years and is suitable for someone at an early stage of their career. The role primarily involves archiving digital outputs from commercial projects, with opportunities to participate in ADS research projects.
