The post holder will be joining an existing Archive team based at the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) in Taunton. The position requires the majority of time to be working from the Archive offices.

This post works closely with the Head of Archives and the Digital Archivist and will be responsible for advice and management of collections and their processes in its archives. A key role will be supporting the UKHO Archives move towards Archives Accreditation and becoming compliant with the UKHO’s statutory public record responsibilities while developing and delivering an online catalogue of Archive holdings and a new digital archive of UKHO records. They will work alongside the existing Digital Archivist whose main role is to work with the digital archive assets and be the master on-line catalogue.

This post is responsible for managing, preserving, and organising all materials such as paper and book documents, records, photographs, and similar materials according to established accredited standards. Their duties include developing and implementing strategies for long-term preservation and access the archives, organising collections and metadata, creating, and maintaining records, managing storage systems, and advising users on how to access and use archives.

The person will hold a pivotal role within the UKHO Archive and interact with key stakeholders across the organisation.
