Opportunity for a Digital Preservation Consultant at the V&A
31 January 2023 | London | Up to £30K | Fixed Term
The V&A is the world’s leading museum of art and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.8 million objects, books and archives that span over 5,000 years of human creativity. The museum holds many of the UK\’s national collections and which include some of the greatest resources for the study of architecture, furniture, fashion, textiles, photography, sculpture, painting, jewellery, glass, ceramics, book arts, design, theatre and performance.
Responsibilities
- Audit collection, archive and corporate information across V&A collections and sites, with reference to its digital preservation.
- Produce a high-level gap analysis highlighting key risks, opportunities and priorities for the organisation, to inform future strategy.
- Produce recommendations for organisational digital preservation strategy, policies and procedures.
Reporting and context
The chosen consultant will report to a cross-museum working group, with representation from curatorial departments, technology, collections care and access, and archives. A budget of £30k is available and it is expected that the work will commence prior to the end of March 2023.
