Vacancy for Senior Infrastructure Engineer at The National Archives (UK) in London

In this role, your work will help ensure that today's digital public records are available to future generations of citizens, researchers, policy makers and historians. This is a full-time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department.

Due to the need to work with physical infrastructure, this role is primarily based at our Kew site though some remote working will be possible. SC-level Security Clearance or willingness to obtain SC clearance is mandatory for this role and requires that you have lived in the UK for the last 3 years. The length of required residency may depend on individual circumstances.

• In-depth technical knowledge and extensive expertise in Linux systems engineering, ideally with hands-on experience of RHEL.
• Familiarity with configuration management/deployment tools such as Ansible and Red Hat Satellite; together with firewall and switch configuration, and virtualisation technologies such as VMware.
• Broad knowledge of a range of software technologies, such as Apache, Docker, Hadoop, MySQL and network services such as DHCP, DNS and LDAP.
• Experience of working within governance frameworks such as the National Cyber Security Centre guidance and the Government Digital Service Technology Code of Practice.
• Excellent ability to analyse and problem solve using a methodical and meticulous approach, together with strong decision-making skills.
• Experience owning the maintenance and modernisation of business-critical infrastructure. Setting technical direction and owning service and system enhancements to improve the efficiency, performance, and availability of these services.
• The ability to build effective working relationships and to work productively, both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Experience with at least one scripting language and a willingness to learn others as required.
• Professional certification, such as Red Hat Certified System Administrator or Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing & Switching, would be an advantage.
• Working knowledge of cloud architectures and design patterns and a willingness to develop skills in this area.
• Knowledge of Test-driven/Agile methodologies, in particular Scrum and the principles of continuous delivery.
