We are seeking an Archive Technology Manager to join the Collections Management Team at the BFI National Archive’s Conservation Centre in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.

As the Archive Technology Manager, you will provide overall leadership and management for the equipment and technology required by the BFI National Archive in delivering its objectives of care and access to the collections. Your leadership of a team of multi-disciplined engineers will encompass maintenance of equipment, both analogue and digital, research and innovation, implementation of new technologies and equipment, all with careful attention to standards and legislation (including for quality assurance for collections care, collections security, and risk), robust knowledge management, and a keen attention to operational efficiencies and continuous improvement.

You will be an experienced people manager, with extensive previous experience of planning, supervising, and delivering major engineering/technology services. You will also have thorough knowledge of digitization and post-production systems spanning all analogue and digital processes and networks. You will have a demonstrable commitment to excellent knowledge management and collaboration.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage the archive’s specialised group of engineers and technologists, providing strategic direction to ensure all aspects of engineering and technical capabilities are supported, maintained and developed.
  • Take responsibility for delivering specialised services to meet collections care and business objectives with leadership for all engineering and technology aspects of the archive’s operations with film, television, video, audio and paper collections.
  • In collaboration with the Head of Data and Digital Preservation, support the maintenance and development of the BFI National Archive’s systems and operational network for digital preservation and access.
  • Ensure that the archive's engineering practices meet all applicable standards and regulations (e.g., with attention to H&S, electrical and mechanical risks, cyber-security).
