The abrdn archive collects, preserves, and promotes the history of abrdn, including all its previous entities and subsidiaries. The team is responsible for preserving a history spanning 197 years. Physical and digital materials are acquired, catalogued, preserved, and made accessible to various internal and external stakeholders. Outreach and advocacy are key aspects of our role, emphasizing the importance of highlighting our work within the wider business.
About the role
As our Collections Development Archivist, you will collaborate with the company archivist on all aspects of collections development, including policy review, accessioning, and record acquisition. You will ensure that records of historical value are transferred to the archive for processing.
Role Responsibilities
- Appraisal and Accessioning: Review and adapt collections development processes and practices in collaboration with the archivist. Update appraisal and accessioning policies to streamline workflows and facilitate effective collection on a global scale. Process backlog of accessions to ensure records are accurately listed and prepared for further processing.
- Stakeholder Communications and Advocacy: Coordinate with the records management team to establish a retention schedule aligned with accession workflows. Build and maintain strong relationships with key business stakeholders to support record collection efforts.
- Collections Development: Understand the archive's role within the business and contribute to solving current collection challenges. Assemble, catalogue, preserve, and maintain historically valuable materials across various formats, adhering to industry standards.
