Information Governance Specialist – Shape the Future of Digital Health in Wales

Fixed Term to 31 March 2027 - Flexible Working Available - Based at Any DHCW Office

Be part of something genuinely meaningful. Imagine using your Information Governance expertise to help transform how health and care data is used across an entire nation. Imagine being part of a friendly, forward‑thinking team working on one of Wales’ most ambitious digital programmes. Imagine seeing the impact of your work ripple across NHS Wales, improving care, empowering patients, and enabling safer, smarter decision‑making.

That’s what you’ll find at Digital Health and Care Wales. We’re the national organisation leading the digital transformation of health and care. From expanding the digital patient record to building a National Data Resource (NDR), we’re creating the digital foundations that will support clinicians, patients, and the public for years to come.

The role: your chance to make a national impact. As our Information Governance Manager, you’ll become a trusted expert within the National Data Record (NDR) Programme — a central figure helping ensure healthcare data is used safely, ethically, and effectively across Wales. You’ll be the person stakeholders turn to for clarity, assurance, and guidance. You’ll shape IG processes for major national projects. You’ll help teams navigate DPIAs, DSAs, and complex data protection questions. And you’ll do it all as part of a supportive, collaborative IG team that values your voice and your expertise.

This is a fixed‑term maternity cover role until 31 March 2027, offering a rare opportunity to contribute to a high‑profile national programme.

What your day might look like:

  • Advising project teams on how to embed strong IG principles into new digital services.
  • Leading the IG assurance process for NDR projects and helping shape national standards.
  • Supporting stakeholders with DPIAs, DSAs, and general IG queries.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for NDR IG enquiries, helping people find clear, practical solutions.
  • Working autonomously to deliver outcomes while still feeling part of a close‑knit, friendly team.
  • Building relationships across NHS Wales, Welsh Government, and partner organisations.

You’ll also have the flexibility to work from any DHCW office, with occasional travel across Wales.

What you’ll bring: We’re looking for someone who sees IG not as a barrier, but as an enabler — someone who enjoys solving problems, influencing others, and helping teams do things the right way. You’ll thrive in this role if you have:

  • Strong subject matter expertise in data protection and confidentiality.
  • Practitioner‑level data protection qualifications.
  • Excellent communication skills — you can explain complex IG issues in a way people understand.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset.
  • The confidence to work independently while building strong relationships across diverse teams.
  • Experience producing high‑quality IG documentation and supporting IG‑related projects.

It’s a bonus if you also have:

  • Experience in NHS or public sector IG environments.
  • Registration with a relevant informatics professional body.
  • Welsh language skills (Level 1 or above).

Why join DHCW: Working with us means joining a national organisation that genuinely values its people. You’ll enjoy:

  • Flexible working options
  • A competitive salary
  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Career development opportunities
  • A culture that celebrates and supports its staff

You’ll also be part of a mission that matters — giving clinicians and patients the digital tools they need to improve health and wellbeing across Wales.

Ready to apply: We welcome applications in Welsh or English — neither will be treated less favourably. All communication will be sent to the email address used on your application. If applying on a secondment basis, please ensure you have approval from your line manager before submitting your application.
