System Administrator

Type: Permanent

WFH: Plymouth (Hybrid – 3 Days Remote)

£30,000 ‑40,000 + benefits

If you enjoy hands‑on infrastructure, love tinkering with RHEL boxes and Cisco switches, and want to spend two days a week with a tight‑knit engineering team on the Devon coast, this role is worth a look. We\’re not necessarily looking for the finished article, growth is an area that is championed throughout the business, so please apply even if you don\’t hit all of the following experience.

Why join

  • Modern mix of bare‑metal servers and a fast‑growing AWS estate
  • Small team → lots of autonomy and visibility
  • Stable client base in a regulated industry (PCIS exposure is a nice plus)

Responsibilities

  • Build, patch and harden RHEL/CentOS servers (physical and virtual)
  • Own day‑to‑day AWS ops: EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, CloudWatch
  • Troubleshoot network issues end‑to‑end (switch, firewall, TCP/IP stack)
  • Handle the occasional Windows headache (1‑2 % of your week) — think “why won’t my Outlook PST open?” rather than domain re‑architecture
  • Automate where you can (shell, Python, Ansible or similar)
  • Contribute to security/compliance projects (PCIS, CIS benchmarks)

Preferred Skills

  • Strong Linux admin (ideally RHEL 8/9)
  • Solid networking fundamentals — TCP/IP, subnets, VLANs, routing; CCNA‑level understanding
  • Practical AWS experience (EC2 networking, IAM permissions, basic cost optimisation)
  • Confident with bare‑metal troubleshooting: you’re happy swapping a disk or diagnosing an iLO alert
