Digital Catapult is equipping the UK to be future ready by accelerating the practical application of deep tech. We’re looking for an enthusiastic Economic Analyst to join us on a Fixed Term Contract until March 2027 to support the delivery on our Assured 5G Technical Authority project (A5GTA). We are looking for someone who is passionate about turning complex data into powerful insights that shape innovation strategies, inform policy, and drive sustainable economic growth.

This role will contribute to the Ecosystem Enablement and Market Adoption workstream, helping to build the evidence base for wider adoption of private 5G networks across the UK. Working closely with technical and policy teams, you will help demonstrate the commercial, technical, and socio-economic value of private 5G technologies. The role is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, an interest in emerging technologies, and experience developing evidence-based business cases and economic assessments.

This is an opportunity to work on a high-profile national project shaping the future adoption of private 5G in the UK. You will contribute to work that informs industry, government, and regulatory decision-making while working alongside experts across technology, policy, and innovation.

WHAT YOU’LL DO (Duties)

  • Support the Senior Business Analyst in developing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models to create robust business cases for private 5G adoption in the UK.
  • Contribute to the design of a Technology Outcomes Framework to capture evidence on the technical performance and socio-economic value of private 5G networks.
  • Produce rigorous, comparable, and auditable analysis of technical performance indicators (KPIs) to support investment and adoption decisions.
  • Conduct economic and sensitivity analysis to identify the conditions under which private 5G adoption delivers the greatest value.
  • Undertake competitor analysis of alternative technologies, including Wi-Fi and other connectivity solutions, assessing their relative strengths and limitations.
  • Identify and assess key benefit categories associated with adoption, including sustainability and wider economic impacts.
  • Engage with stakeholders through workshops, playback sessions, and other feedback mechanisms to validate findings and refine analysis.
  • Support the production of a final report outlining the adoption value of private 5G networks for key stakeholders including Innovate UK, UK Government, regulators, and the wider private 5G ecosystem.

Requirements

  • We are looking for someone with analytical rigour, strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
  • Experience in economic analysis, business case development, or technology adoption assessment.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including modelling and sensitivity analysis.
  • Communication and Interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate complex findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working with data, KPIs, or performance frameworks.
  • An interest / understanding in telecommunications, digital infrastructure, or emerging technologies such as 5G.
  • Experience and understanding in telecoms, digital connectivity, innovation policy, or infrastructure projects is desirable along with familiarity with socio-economic impact assessment or sustainability metrics.
  • Experience facilitating workshops or stakeholder consultations is also advantageous.

Salary: c £35-40K (subject to experience).
