The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is the UK's regulator for medicines and medical devices. The Chief Officer, Digital and Technologies will lead the transformation of the Agency's technology and data strategy, ensuring secure, resilient and user‐centred systems that support safer, faster and more effective regulation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of major IT programmes that underpin regulatory and operational capabilities.
  • Design and oversee a data architecture that drives world‐class safety surveillance and supports early decision‐making.
  • Shape national and global digital health regulation, including the regulation of software and AI as medical devices.
  • Represent MHRA on national boards, in industry forums and with international regulators.
  • Drive continuous improvement of technology, cyber‐security and data governance across the Agency.
  • Partner with other Government departments, academia and industry to co‐create standards, tools and partnerships that advance patient safety.
  • Provide strategic leadership, setting vision, resource priorities and performance metrics for the Digital and Technologies portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in digital technology leadership, preferably within a regulated or public‐sector environment.
  • Strong knowledge of data‐driven safety surveillance, cyber‐security, system architecture and digital health solutions.
  • Proven track record of managing large, complex programmes and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience representing organisations at national and international levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate policy objectives into pragmatic technology solutions.
