We are seeking an exceptional, high-calibre Programme Manager for a critical position in one of our key projects. This isn't just a governance role; we are looking for a true organisational lynchpin who pairs sharp analytical structure with outstanding people leadership. You will head a fast-moving, multi-disciplinary team, bridge the gap between strategy and hands-on execution, and shape the long-term success of our most complex portfolios.

Role Description

  • To manage complex projects or sub-portfolios addressing unpredictable or complex issues, or situations.
  • To lead sub-portfolios of programmes and projects across a broad range of business contexts. Influence acquisition strategy and align projects to the organisational vision.
  • Accountable for establishing, leading and managing the programme office of a high-performing, fast-moving, multi-disciplinary team to ensure project delivery to agreed outcomes.
  • Accountable for the delivery of the programme and subsequent projects and supporting project/programme documentation and requirements within the performance/cost/time envelope. This includes creative identification and escalation of risks and opportunities across the programme.
  • Responsible for the correct and appropriate approvals are achieved for the programme and subsequent projects.
  • Contribute to leadership and strategic direction of the team.
  • Responsible for embedding and adhering to all governance and policy and enable the required compliance throughout their team, ensure appropriate challenge and gain approval to deviate when necessary.
  • Responsible for establishment and facilitation of governance processes for the leadership to monitor project delivery.
  • Leading the interaction with commercial and financial entities.
  • Responsible for meeting budgets within all In-Year and longer-term accounting periods.
  • Participate in innovation activities alongside the rest of the team in order to deliver the mission.

Requirements

  • SC cleared
  • Experience of successfully leading and managing a complex project management team or sub-portfolio team
  • Must be able to work in person from Portsmouth and London
  • Any of the following: APM PMQ/MSP/PRINCE2

Desirable:

  • Awareness of MOD or other government department procurement, commercial and financial processes.
  • MAPM ChPP or RPP, relevant Post-Graduate qualification i.e. MSc (Project Management), PLP.
