This role involves hybrid working, with the offices based close to Watford.
About the Role: The Commercial Manager will work within the Fire and Security Teams under the Assurance Division. The aim of this role is to turnaround, transform and grow the revenue and profit performance of this part of the business. As Commercial Manager, you will take the laboratory and certification business forward through improving operational processes and delivery, and lead a continual improvement project. Working closely with another Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for your own business teams within Fire Suppression and Passive Fire.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop commercial capability and operational efficiency in teams that deliver Fire and Security testing and certification services.
- Maximise the revenue and profit generation from Fire and Security facilities by providing a commercially driven market leading service and by growing capacity in response to market need.
- Be the commercial face of the Fire and Security business forming new commercial partnerships and ensuring delivery of an excellent service to customers and wider stakeholders.
- Working with the business development team to identify new business opportunities for the Fire and Security testing and certification services.
- Ensuring that work that is won can be delivered in a timely manner.
- Provide detailed financial forecasts, work scheduling and capacity reporting.
- Identify, implement and embed continuous improvements in ways of working to ensure delivery is in line with the relevant standards and hits budgeted financial targets.
- Drive positive change in the ways of working by pushing for the adoption of new work practices and implementing solutions e.g., 5S for workplace organisation, LIMS Implementation, Preventative Maintenance, Agile workflows.
- Understand and interpret Customer feedback, driving change based on this insight.
About You: To be successful in this role, you will need to be passionate about growing and scaling a business. You will be a trusted and inspirational leader who is able to take people from different professions with you. Ideally you will have previous experience of leading an operational team in a similar organisation and be used to working to specific regulations and standards.
A Strong, progressive commercial leader with the ability to quickly build credibility amongst colleagues and stakeholders. Customer centric, can operate and deliver outputs in a customer focused way and as a commercial leader, is able to influence others to do the same. Has competence and experience of working in a testing and certification setting. Demonstrable experience of working collaboratively with external regulatory bodies or accreditation bodies ideally UKAS in an ISO 17025/17065 environment. Strong leader in terms of improving workplace organisation and raising standards. Strong communicator who is able to influence, constructively challenge and collaborate at all levels of the organisation.
