Specification Technologist

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Specification Technologist to join a well-established food manufacturing business based in Middlesex.

This role is ideal for a technical professional with a strong background in food manufacturing and a thorough understanding of product specifications, food safety, food legislation, and retailer requirements.

You will play a key role in ensuring that all product specifications and technical documentation are accurate, compliant, and maintained to the highest standards.

Working closely with Technical, Quality, NPD, Production, and Commercial teams, you will help support both existing products and new product launches while ensuring compliance with customer, retailer, and legal requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Create, review, and maintain product specifications for customers and retailers.
  • Ensure all specifications comply with UK food legislation, food safety standards, and retailer codes of practice.
  • Manage and update information on retailer specification systems and technical portals.
  • Verify the accuracy of ingredient declarations, nutritional information, allergen data, and pack copy.
  • Support new product development and product launches by coordinating technical documentation and artwork approval.
  • Liaise with internal departments to obtain and validate technical information.
  • Maintain accurate technical records and documentation to support internal and external audits.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of quality and food safety systems.
  • Identify and escalate any compliance or specification-related issues in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Technical or Specification Technologist role within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of food labelling legislation and retailer specification requirements.
  • Experience working with retailer specification systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage complex technical information accurately.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • A good understanding of food safety and quality systems.
  • HACCP qualification (or willingness to work towards achieving one).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
