Post-Doctoral Research Associate for X-ray Optics

Join Diamond Light Source as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Optics and Metrology Group, working on the development of X-ray optics.

About the Role

The role is on a 3-year fixed term basis. You will work closely with the B16 beamline team and other beamline scientists, developing X-ray wavefront analysis and characterisation methods, and advancing wavefront metrology techniques.

Responsibilities

• Carry out in-house research in X-ray optics and metrology.
• Develop experimental and data analysis techniques and implement them in the optics group and/or beamlines.
• Carry out experiments, analyse data, and publish results.
• Provide support for specifying, procuring, and testing of beamline optics.
• Present results at international conferences, workshops, and peer‑reviewed journals.
• Advance existing at‑wavelength metrology and wavefront characterisation techniques.
• Develop measurement methods for source size and beam coherence for Diamond‑II.
• Improve performance of hard X‑ray micro/nano focusing optics using corrector phase plates.

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant science discipline.
• PhD and experience in synchrotron facilities.
• Programming in Python, C++, MATLAB or similar platform.
• Develop data processing techniques.
• Simulation or characterisation of wavefront propagation.
• Synchrotron‑based instrumentation.
