About the Role
The Diamond Accelerator Electrical Engineering team now have an excellent opportunity to join us as an Electrical Project Engineer on a 2-year fixed term contract. We look after the electrical designs for Diamond's three accelerators and the equipment needed to make these work. The team works closely with all groups within Diamond to design and develop highly reliable electrical systems for Diamond and for the Diamond-II upgrade project.
You will need to use your skills to provide design input, capture requirements, produce project plans and progress projects within the team for a variety of different groups across Diamond, including Vacuum control systems, RF, Insertion Devices and Machine Protection Systems.
The Electrical Project Engineer's responsibilities will include:
- Taking a pro-active lead in the delivery of a range of Diamond projects, interacting closely with in-house and external scientific and engineering staff.
- Providing creative, innovative and adaptive solutions to problems involved with the multi-disciplined engineering systems and providing professional input to the electrical design, manufacture, installation, testing and commissioning phases.
- Producing layouts, design concepts and calculations in support of designs; performing or supervising CAD and performance calculations.
- Line managing staff and supervising contract staff.
- Negotiating, agreeing and writing technical specifications, producing and monitoring project management plans including Gantt charts, resource and procurement plans.
- Contributing to hazard analysis and risk assessment exercises.
- Maintaining and managing project files containing all relevant project documentation and completing formal handover of projects to the relevant client.
- Making presentations of project status and technical issues at project meetings.
About You
You will have a degree in electrical engineering or another relevant discipline, or demonstrate significant equivalent experience. You will demonstrate:
- Understanding of electrical engineering drawings.
- Proven ability to produce designs and specifications to appropriate standards.
- Experience using a relevant CAD system (Diamond uses AutoCAD, Zuken E3).
- Practical knowledge and experience of electrical safety in design, installation and operation.
- Past responsibility for electrical aspects of large scale, multi-disciplined projects; completing specifications and managing time, cost and quality.
- Experience in the specification, procurement, installation and commissioning of multi-disciplined engineering systems.
- Experience and skill in leading teams and supervising design staff in project delivery.
- Practical experience of project management.
- Proven ability to oversee procurement, assembly, testing and commissioning of electrical control systems.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
As standard this role offers a hybrid working arrangement with a minimum of 3 days working onsite per week.
